Musil is a former executive director and CEO of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Physicians for Social Responsibility. A senior fellow and adjunct professor of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University, he has also been a visiting scholar at the Churches’ Center for Theology and Public Policy at Wesley Theological Seminary, where he taught about religious responses to global warming and security threats.

Musil specializes in a variety of issues, including global security, sustainability and health. He is the author of numerous articles and the books: Hope for a Heated Planet: How Americans are Fighting Global Warming and Building a Better Future; Rachel Carson and Her Sisters: Extraordinary Women Who Have Shaped America’s Environment; and Washington in Springtime: A Nature Journal for a Changing Capital.

Rachel Carson is best known for her 1962 book Silent Spring, which documented the dangers of widespread pesticide use, and is widely credited with being a key moment in the emergence of the modern environmental movement.

Rachel Carson
